Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society

The Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society is the official chemistry club for undergraduates at LSU. I joined during my freshman year. As a member, I made many friends and had amazing experiences. I started as the Graphic Design Chair and became President during my senior year!

Participating in this club showed me that people don't think science is so difficult when it is introduced in a fun and engaging way. I hope to apply this mentality when explaining medicines and conditions to my future patients! Look below to see the service and fun I experienced through this club.

Service

Through SAACS, I participated in many chemistry demonstrations to people without much contact to science, both young and old. For younger audiences, we get the chance to inspire their interest in science.

Fun

Through this club, I learned the value of team work and community. Below are some pictures from various events that encouraged bonding between members.

We made this video for a contest to get a free trip to the Southwest Regional Meeting of the ACS in 2016. We won the trip!

Here I am with my friend, Michael, making liquid nitrogen ice cream, a SAACS specialty.

Here we are during our hike in Tunica Hills on Mole Day (10/24/2016).

This is the aftermath of our paint party in 2015!

We created a delicious Periodic Table of Cupcakes during National Chemistry Week.

Residents at St. James Place Life Care Community enjoyed freezing flowers with liquid nitrogen.

SAACS performed the liquid nitrogen demo during the 20th Anniversary celebration of the Chem Demo program at LSU.

This is the crowd of senior citizens at St. James Place ready to learn about the liquid nitrogen and its cool properties.

We performed a chemistry demo for the kids in the North Baton Rouge area during Live 2 Serve, a weekly program where kids can have fun with good role models.
